This Ain't Cockadoody

This is a picture of the first contract I've ever actually signed. Okay, it isn't for six figures, (or five, or four, or three) but it's a genuine paper contract with my signature on it. Today, Dragons, Knights and Angels, The Magazine of Christian Fantasy and Science Fiction, published my short story, Raven in their wonderful mag. And I actually got paid for it! I must give props to my new friend (and whirlwind of a wit) Mirtika, for giving the heads up on this great site. Thanks, Mir!

But that ain't all. After you read Raven, you can drop over to Infuze and read my first ever published poem Seasons' Dance, which you may have read here. I'm actually a tad insecure at the thought of real poets reading such amateurish work. Oh well. If you haven't swooned at the injustice of it all, (and aren't completely embarrassed to associate your name with mine), please leave a comment.

And while I'm on a roll, I just posted chapter one of my first completed novel What Faith Awakes for public perusal. It's a 90,000 word supernatural suspense which was simultaneously exhausting and exhilarating to write. This month I'll be making some minor tweaks, and probably start shopping for an agent. I've got a few short stories I'll be birthing, begin research on a second novel, and by mid-year hope to begin jamming on the new project.

Blessings to those of you who visit here and leave comments. You make this a fun ride. Peace...

Wow, that’s exciting, time to quit the day job! How much did you make on that deal anyway? Hopefully more than the last one. You’ll be proud to hear that I’ve already read chapter one of the novel. I was actually pretty intrigued. That says a lot for a person who isn’t a reader. Maybe its just because its you, but either way I enjoyed it and I’m looking forward to reading time tonight. Later.

Hey meme, at this pay, even Mr. Publish-o-matic (thanks for the moniker, Jeanne) couldn't afford to quit his day job. I'd need to crank out about twenty stories a day to make anything happen. Hey, maybe me and Mike Snyder can combine talents. We can merge the dark world of Raven with the wacky world of Russell Fink, and start a serial about a demonized dweeb. Hmm. Guess I will have to keep the day job.

"This ain't cockadoody"??

LOL. Just when I thought you were all literary...Now that I can understand!

Congrats, Mike. You're on your way.
(and though I may heckle you on occassion, I think you're brilliant, I really do.)

I'll take that as an olive branch, Gina. Scripture says, "Iron sharpens iron." Maybe I need my own personal heckler to stay sharp. If that's so, you've got the job. (Lord knows I incite my own share of banter.) But I must find a more eloquent way to say cockadoody, don't you think? Blessings and grace to you, Gina...

Great scripture quote. You always get me thinking. And often after our debates I've softened my view.
Perhaps you could find a better way to say cockadoody but that word is perfect and funny.

I've never written to be eloquent. Entertaining, thought provoking, funny maybe. If eloquence occasionally escapes me, well, cockadoody doo.

Can I still have a smoking jacket?

(and aren't completely embarrassed to associate your name with mine - Mike, give this stuff up, will ya?! You're a great writer!

Congratulations!!! It's baby steps that add up. God has already picked your audience . . . how that fleshes out monitarily is yet to be seen. But He gave you your gift to be used for HIS purposes, not yours or anyone elses, and He's doing just that. So, enjoy the ride with confidence that you're fulfilling the purposes of God in your life :)

"cockadoody." I'm not familiar with the term. Must be some literary word a simple chic like me wouldn't know.
Sorry Mike, I'm actually here to say, "Congrat!!!!!" I'm rejoicing with you.
